2026 China Toy Expo Gives AI Toys a Dedicated Hall as Practical Features Take Priority

The 2026 CTE China Toy Expo and accompanying designer toy exhibitions took place in Shanghai from October 21 to 23, introducing a dedicated AI and Smart Ecosystem Hall for the first time. AI designer toys received their own exhibition space as manufacturers placed greater emphasis on practical applications, product delivery and the consumer experience.

The shift in emphasis is the central industry signal: AI development at the exhibition was moving from demonstrations of technological possibilities toward functions intended for actual use. A dedicated hall gives the category greater visibility, while the focus on practical implementation puts the usefulness of individual products under closer scrutiny.

For product development, this direction suggests that selecting which AI features to include could become as important as adding the technology itself. If consumer experience remains the priority, manufacturers may place more weight on whether a feature serves a clear purpose and works consistently during normal play. That would make the connection between an AI capability and the toy’s core appeal a more useful basis for assessing products.

The exhibition supports a judgment about manufacturers’ development priorities, but it does not establish commercial success. Dedicated exhibition space and a stronger focus on usable functions do not, by themselves, demonstrate sustained consumer demand or repeat use.
