Taiwan's Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection and the Consumer Protection Department announced on November 4, 2026, that all 20 squishy toys sampled in a market inspection met toy safety requirements. The checks nevertheless identified problems with inspection marks and Chinese-language labeling.
Four samples failed to comply with merchandise inspection mark requirements, including products associated with the Shopee and Coupang platforms. Six samples did not comply with Chinese-language labeling requirements. The results do not establish whether the two groups of noncompliant samples overlapped.

The findings distinguish product safety testing from other compliance obligations: all sampled toys passed the safety checks, but some still fell short on inspection marks or labeling. For sellers and platforms, the results highlight the need to check those requirements separately rather than treating a safety pass as evidence that every obligation has been met.
The standards bureau said squishy toys are subject to mandatory inspection and that violators face fines of NT$200,000 to NT$2 million, as well as removal from sale and recall. The practical impact will depend on subsequent enforcement and the handling of the noncompliant products.
