Monel alloy steel strip is an alloy strip based on nickel and copper. With the advantages of corrosion resistance, strength and processability, it is widely used in harsh environments. The following is a description of composition, performance, specifications and applications:
Composition and type
- Core composition: mainly nickel (Ni, about 63%~70%) and copper (Cu, about 28%~34%), containing a small amount of iron (Fe), manganese (Mn) and other elements. Some grades add aluminum (Al) and titanium (Ti) to strengthen performance.
- Typical grades:
- Monel 400: Basic type, with balanced corrosion resistance and processability, suitable for room temperature and medium temperature environment.
- Monel K-500: Add Al (2.3%~3.15%) and Ti (0.3%~1.0%), improve strength and wear resistance through aging hardening, and have better mechanical properties.
Performance characteristics
- Corrosion resistance:
- Excellent corrosion resistance to hydrofluoric acid, fluorine gas, seawater, hot concentrated alkali solution, sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid and other media, and is not prone to stress corrosion cracking.
- Corrosion resistance is better than most stainless steels in marine environments and can resist chloride ion corrosion.
- Mechanical properties:
- Monel 400: tensile strength ≥480MPa, yield strength ≥170MPa, elongation ≥35%, good toughness.
- Monel K-500: tensile strength can reach 1030MPa, yield strength 690MPa, higher hardness (HV 240~300), suitable for high-strength demand scenarios.
- Processing and formability:
- It can be precisely formed through cold rolling, stamping, bending and other processes, with good weldability (supports TIG and MIG welding), and can be cooled with water during high-speed processing.
Specifications and forms
- Thickness: 0.1mm~3mm (conventional cold-rolled strip), some hot-rolled strips can be thicker and customized on demand.
- Width: 5mm~1200mm, can be divided into narrow strips or coils.
- Surface state: cold-rolled bright surface, annealed soft state, hard state (H1/2, H3/4, etc.), to meet different molding requirements.
- Coil weight: conventional coil weight 50kg~2000kg, can be adjusted according to transportation and use scenarios.
Application areas
- Chemical equipment: manufacturing corrosion-resistant gaskets, sealing tapes, heat exchanger tube bundles, resisting corrosion from strong acids, salt solutions and organic media.
- Marine engineering: heat exchange strips for seawater desalination equipment, ship seawater pipeline coatings, submarine cable sheaths.
- Oil and gas: oil well pipeline anti-corrosion layers, crude oil distillation equipment seals, withstand high temperature, high pressure and chemical corrosion.
- Electronics and instruments: manufacturing corrosion-resistant springs and contact elements, maintaining stable performance in humid or corrosive gas environments.
- Nuclear industry: key corrosion-resistant components of uranium refining equipment, adapting to radioactive media and high temperature environments.
Product Advantages
Monel alloy steel strip has the characteristics of "resistance to strong corrosive media + high strength + easy processing and forming", especially in hydrofluoric acid, seawater, hot alkali and other scenes. It can achieve lightweight and precision application through thin specification design, and is a high-end corrosion-resistant material to replace traditional stainless steel.
