Composition and type
- Core system: Based on the nickel matrix, it is divided into different series according to the differences in alloy elements:
- Nickel-chromium (Ni-Cr) system: such as Inconel 600 (Ni-16Cr-8Fe), resistant to oxidation and high temperature corrosion;
- Nickel-chromium-molybdenum (Ni-Cr-Mo) system: such as Hastelloy C-276 (Ni-16Cr-16Mo-5Fe), resistant to strong reducing acid and chloride ion corrosion;
- Nickel-iron-chromium (Ni-Fe-Cr) system: such as Incoloy 825 (Ni-42Fe-21Cr-3Mo), resistant to sulfuric acid, seawater and stress corrosion;
- Precipitation hardening type: such as Inconel 718 (Ni-52Cr-19Fe-5Mo), strength is improved through aging strengthening.
- Typical grade characteristics:
- Hastelloy C-276: resistant to wet chlorine, hypochlorite and strong oxidant corrosion;
- Inconel 625: contains molybdenum and niobium, with tensile strength exceeding 890MPa at high temperature (above 650℃), and outstanding creep resistance.
Performance characteristics
- Corrosion resistance:
- Resistance to various media: excellent performance in seawater, chloride ions, hydrofluoric acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid and high temperature and high pressure corrosion environments, suitable for scenes where stainless steel fails (such as chemical pickling, marine engineering);
- Passivation film protection: chromium and molybdenum elements form a dense oxide film to inhibit intergranular corrosion and pitting.
- High temperature performance:
- Heat resistance range: Most grades can be used for a long time at 600℃~1200℃, and Inconel 718 still has a tensile strength of more than 1000MPa at 700℃;
- Oxidation resistance: when the chromium content is ≥15%, it can resist carburization and sulfide corrosion in high temperature flue gas.
- Mechanical and processability:
- Strength: Hastelloy C-276 has a room temperature tensile strength of ≥730MPa, which is better than ordinary stainless steel;
- Formability: It can be processed by cold rolling, stamping, and welding (TIG welding is recommended). Thin strips (≤0.5mm) need to control stress to avoid cracking, and degreasing is required before welding to prevent thermal cracking.
Specifications and morphology
- Thickness: 0.05mm~3mm (foil/thin strip), 3mm~10mm (thick strip), with an accuracy of ±0.01mm;
- Width: 10mm~1500mm, support for strip customization (such as narrow strips for electronic components);
- Length: The coil length can reach hundreds of meters (thin strips), and the straight strip is generally 2m~6m;
- Surface treatment:
- Cold rolled bright surface (Ra≤0.8μm), annealed softened surface, pickled rough surface (for coating adhesion);
- Special treatment: nickel plating, passivation or coating with corrosion-resistant coating (such as PTFE).
- Implementation standards:
- American standard: ASTM B162 (nickel and nickel alloy strips), ASTM B443 (special alloy strips);
- National standard: GB/T 2072 (nickel and nickel alloy strips), GB/T 15018 (alloy strips).
Application areas
- Petroleum and chemical industry:
- Corrosion-resistant gaskets and sealing strips (Hastelloy C-276), resistant to H₂S, CO₂ and high-salt media;
- Reactor linings, heat exchanger fins (Inconel 625), resistant to high-temperature strong acid corrosion.
- Electronics and aviation:
- Integrated circuit lead frames (Invar alloy nickel-iron alloy strips), low expansion coefficient matching chips;
- Aircraft engine seals, high-temperature springs (Inconel 718), anti-fatigue and high-temperature oxidation.
- Energy and Environmental Protection:
- Nuclear power plant steam generator sealing tape (Inconel 690), radiation resistance and high temperature and high pressure;
- Fuel cell plates (platinum-plated nickel tape), resistant to electrolyte corrosion and conductive.
- Marine and Medical:
- Bellows for seawater desalination equipment (Incoloy 825), resistant to chloride ion stress corrosion;
- Medical sutures, implantable devices (pure nickel tape or special alloy tape, biocompatibility meets standards).
Product Advantages
Nickel-based alloy tape has both "extreme environment resistance + precision processing", and can be customized through thickness/width to meet special needs such as ultra-thin and ultra-wide (such as foil tape for electronic components). It is irreplaceable in precision parts that require corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance and high strength, and is especially suitable for high-end scenarios where stainless steel cannot meet working conditions.
